My husband Mark and I.
Hey there, my name is Kelly! I am a pastry chef living in Oregon, I’ve been living here since 2013 and it has it been an amazing experience. I moved out here upon graduating The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY with a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts. Since then, I’ve been working in the wine industry as a chef and I feel so lucky for all of the things I’ve learned throughout the years. Food and wine are two passions near to my heart. Oregon wine country is beyond beautiful and amazing in its culture and the people who are the backbone of this magical place. I also met the love of my life in Oregon, my husband Mark!
Food has always been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a house where food was family. Food played a very important role in my relationships, it was a mutual way to come together, to connect and to please people. My mother is Italian, and made ridiculously delicious home cooked meals every night. My father is Scottish/Irish, but despite that grills a mean steak and still to this day will make you anything you want for breakfast upon request. Basically, I grew up very well fed.
I love being a chef because food is something I am always thinking and excited about. It’s a way of expression for me, a way I can manifest my emotions and be artistic. I love creating recipes and watching individual ingredients come together to create a beautiful dish or dessert. I also truly love eating. Enjoying different flavors and textures, seeing how food changes with wine, being engrossed in a dish and savoring every bite. On any given weekend day, you can catch me sipping wine with my husband enjoying some local culture and food.
I have the utmost respect for organic ingredients, and always try to source locally and seasonally. There are so many wonderful things in nature to provide us with the tools to make meals from scratch, and I don’t believe in taking short cuts for ingredients. Even if it’s more expensive, harder to find/forage, or takes more time, it’s worth it. Creative freedom is very important to me, I love to think outside the box when it comes to flavor concepts. You’ll see me using herbs, plants, flowers and spices in ways maybe you haven’t thought of before. I want to help inspire, connect, learn and teach. Inspire people who are intimidated by baking. Connect and establish virtual friendships. Learn things about myself through blogging. Teach the things I’ve learned throughout my career to help keep baking fun and exciting for you all!
